CSO Concert in Carlisle Cathedral
24th February 2001

Review by "Tracker"

Our annual event took place in the refurbished Border Regiment Chapel in Carlisle Cathedral and was given by Hilary Gordon, Head of Music at Trinity School with her A level music students playing their various instruments accompanied by Hilary at the piano. The instruments were violin, flute, oboe, clarinet, guitar, trumpet and soprano voice. Also performing was Nicholas Brown, Cathedral Chorister and winner of the BBC Chorister of the Year Competition. Hilary's students came from other schools as well as Trinity because to be viable, music students must attend one school. The standard of playing was much enjoyed especially because our future professional musicians were prepared to play in public.

Our thanks are due to Hilary Gordon for organising the performance, to Jeremy Suter and Carolyn Maguire for the administration, to Carolyn and Alan Maguire for the refreshments, but our thanks are primarily to the players. Thanks were expressed by the Chairman at the end of the concert. The audience was inevitably limited to families of the performers and therefore box office receipts were also limited but they were sufficient to meet expenses. Members of the CSO present enjoyed a non-organ experience!
